About MALTA SKI

HISTORY

In the 80s there was a new idea of developing the area around Malta Lake – a design of a sport-recreation complex with a ski run (the design of Malta Complex – Klemens Mikuła). At first, the natural hill at the foot of reconstructed Kopiec Wolności (Freedom Mound) was used by snow lovers only a few times a year when it was snow covered. Only the idea of creating a year-long complex would give a chance of using it for 365 days a year. With that in mind, the investors started building the center in the second half of 1992. First machines appeared on the site in August. Thanks to a few enthusiasts, after 6 months of hard work the first year-long skiing center in Central Europe came into being. Similar ski run with artificial surfaces existed at that time in UK, Holland and Germany.

The grand opening of MALTA SKI gathered 30 thousand people on 21 February 1993.

MALTA SKI has been developing its offer year after year. First we started teaching skiing, then snowboarding and then we offered other services. We opened a rental service with mountain bikes, family bikes and rollerblades. We created a winter equipment rental service and skiing service. During summer and winter holidays we organize play centers for children. In summer season we organize parties for companies from all around Poland in our Picnic Field. In 1998 we opened summer toboggan run. In 2002 and 2004 we started a minigolf course and a driving range. In the summer of 2005 we created free Summer Cinema, which shows films and concerts.

We invite world skiing stars to Poznań. Pirmin Zurbriggen and Franz Klamer were our guests.

Events organized by MALTA SKI, such as concerts, sport competitions and fests gather thousands of spectators and hundreds of competitors. They have already become regular in Poznań’s event calendar. The annual Skiing and Snowboarding Poznań Cup held under the auspices of the President of Poznań is a great example of our tradition.
